Clear Coat Failure

I realize this is well documented, merely how many of you lot take had the articulate coat fail and had information technology repainted vs how many of you lot fixed it via an culling method such every bit plasti dip or vinyl wrap? Are you pleased with your decision?

I'd beloved to hear your stories because I have never seen and so many vehicles of one brand have clear coat failure like this. I run into lots of 2d gen Taco's with paint problems as well.

Post abroad!

Clear Coat Failure

i feel like i merely saw this thread only i have decided to lean into the barnacle expect for at present. Maybe anytime i'll exercise something but i don't plan on a nice paint job especially one time I'm taking this offroad a lot.

I love my 4runner. I love it because its like shooting fish in a barrel to work on and I pride myself in knowing with 240,000 miles she is mechanically 95%. I love it crusade its fun to drive and I experience like a kid every time I drive information technology. I love it crusade it does everything I need it to (except pull loads, but see my sig for that). Just nearly of all, I honey information technology cause I dont give 2 shits if she gets scratched from bushes, dinged from shopping carts, or one more than piece of clearcoat flies off.

Just my opinion on my favorite vehicle of all time. (I keep the interior flawless fyi)

My hood had pieces of clear coat flaking off. Had information technology painted this summer, no regrets. I call back the roof paint is starting to go, merely I don't have to look at it constantly, so I may let it slide

Postal service away!

Im not maxim there isnt something upwardly with the articulate coat on these but, the manufacturing plant paint is getting old on these things. Unless it was garage kept and never saw sunlight, the paint will be weather beaten and worn.

With that said, for the paint on these pushing 16 years or older, the majority I come across are in good shape when compared to many cars of the same era. I'd say Dodges are the worst. Non a single one I see has good paint left on information technology if the pigment hasnt flaked off past now

Nailed it ! I bought mine to become hunting and drag me thru the castor, then yes it is going to become scratched upward....a lot and I don't worry about it i bit.
I accept a '97 Limited and a '98 SR5 both are dark-green and both are peeling articulate on the horizontal surfaces simply the sides expect great. They are both Cali cars and I will take peeling, not-then-clear-anymore, clear glaze over rust anytime.

My evergreen pearl the whole hood and roof had no clear left and the tops of all the doors and fenders were all peeling also. Granted mine spent a lot of its life exterior. I recently decided to give her some dear and gave her a fresh new paint chore. Here is a before and subsequently.

I just got my natural white 4Runner a little over a month ago in Wisconsin only information technology spent near of its life in Colorado and then information technology'southward pretty rust free. That said, the clear coat was very irksome and I think it's starting to peel a little bit on the roof. I think it had been a long fourth dimension since the finish had seen any kind of wax or sealant. Not long after I got it I went over it with a clay bar, a fine cut compound, a swirl remover compound, and a nice glaze of Wolfgang deep gloss 3.0 sealant. I'm really happy with the results because how dull it was. Colorado might not use table salt but they must use sand mixed with pea gravel because the pigment, light housings, and windshield take plenty of lilliputian rock chips all over.

You tin can encounter the improved since along the commuter'due south side.

Another Evergreen Pearl here - hood and roof have astringent clearcoat peeling. I'm not too worried about it unless I commencement to see rust. I'll do something about information technology at that point.

My 97 (desert dune) has zero articulate coat issues. Spent most of its life in WI but besides spent 7 years in AZ. My truck has almost never seen a garage either. I wish my Camry/Highlander paint/clear coat was even remotely as skilful as my third gen.

A lot of the not-metallic trucks are single phase on Toyotas... maybe yours never fifty-fifty had clear? (my original 'ninety Super White Camry was single phase from the mill too)

Equally for my Desert Dune 3rd gen... I am loosing the clear coat on my hatch top - simply that was a body shop replacement function. The rest of the OEM paint is in good shape. It has been garaged nearly half of its life, only not ever really taken care of.

I wish "lack of clear coat" was my smallest outcome. The rust outcome...
